My name is Ashley Mahood Paraiso and I am a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist now taking new patients at Elev8 MD Wellness Center. I am thrilled to be part of this team and its mission to be an oasis of mind-body healing for the greater Charlotte area. I have over five years of private practice experience and recently moved here from Washington, DC. Today I want to answer the most frequently asked question people have about acupuncture.
“I’ve never tried acupuncture before. What’s it all about, anyway?”
It’s hard for me to boil down over 2,000 years of acupuncture history and thousands of success stories from my treatment room into a few sentences. But here it goes anyway!
- We strive for overall balance. Acupuncture needles help move energy, which helps bring the body into balance. Balance creates the conditions for your body and mind to work efficiently and effectively, to heal itself, and to thrive.
- We are all unique. As an acupuncturist, I treat the person, not just the symptoms. Two people can come to me with similar symptoms. Yet because they are unique beings, there may be different underlying causes, and the two people will have different treatment plans using different acupuncture points.
- The mind and body are not separate from one another. An individual comes to me with chronic low back pain. She also regularly experiences insomnia, a short temper, high stress, and anxiety. With acupuncture, we can work to improve her pain, sleep, emotional regulation and self-awareness all at once because they are all related.
- We can all benefit from acupuncture treatment. When our energies are in balance, we feel lighter, brighter, clearer, more focused, more energetic, and our emotions flow more smoothly. I haven’t met anyone who would say no to that! Acupuncture can complement Western medical therapies and treatments, or it can be used on its own.
Acupuncture isn’t just about receiving treatment. I am a firm believer that it is also about the partnership between the acupuncturist and the patient. Adding acupuncture to other Elev8 MD treatments and services is a great way to further support your whole self. If you are interested in trying acupuncture or you have tried acupuncture before and are curious about trying it again, contact the Elev8 MD front desk to schedule a brief phone consult with me. I am happy to address your concerns and questions.
